Brains Season 1, a celebration

Come for the cute take on an apocalyptic world and leave whenever you’re tired of the lackluster cast performance or shaky camera.

Nerdophiles.com

Hi there. My name is Bri and this is my 10 year old website, and, in the twist of the century, I want to talk about Brains, my web series that is now in the middle of “airing” its second season. The above quote is from a recent review of season 1, and this blog is not a response to that review, not exactly. Continue reading “Brains Season 1, a celebration”

Focus

It feels weird to blog. It feels weirder to write, in general. I’ve spent so much of my summer on sets or planning for sets that I just haven’t had the energy to be creative. That’s not exactly true, as a lot of my job as producer/production designer/actor/etc etc is creative problem solving, but still. It feels that way when I’m not writing. Continue reading “Focus”

The Bechdel Test is the Worst

Above: a feminist with her natural facial expression.
Above: a feminist with her natural facial expression.

I’ve spent a considerable portion of my life telling people I wasn’t a feminist because I was friends with too many men, or because I believed in equality. My journey into the heart of feminism isn’t important now, though, because I am now a woman in the film and television industry and because of this, I hear a lot about “The Bechdel Test” and I feel like we need to clear some things up. (video version of this post at the bottom) Lets jump right in:

Why the Bechdel Test is Actually Not A Good Way to Measure Feminism in Film and Television

What goes into Cooking with Gandalf

Because we’re already knee deep into the second season of Cooking with Gandalf (a playlist of ALL videos from this show can be viewed HERE), I thought I’d briefly talk to you about what ACTUALLY goes into each episode. It seems really off-the-cuff and simple, but the process in which one episode is produced is pretty long and arduous. But worth it, right? Continue reading “What goes into Cooking with Gandalf”

Closing Time: Craig and the return of the cybermen

Remember how I said I had high expectations for the God Complex? Well, they were NOTHING compared to my expectations for this one. The Lodger, where Craig Owens first appears, is one of my favorite episodes of all time. It also spawned the brilliant Chameleon Circuit song “Kiss the Girl”, which is one of my favorites from their recent album, Still Got Legs. (I also really liked “Mr. Pond”, and “Traveling Man” for the whispered line at the end, “just this once, everybody lives”, from one of my OTHER all-time favorite episodes). Anyways, moving on. I was SO excited for this episode, and for the most part, it did not let me down. Continue reading “Closing Time: Craig and the return of the cybermen”

The God Complex: Faith and failure

I had a lot of expectations for this episode, partially because I love plays and movies that take place in a single location, and partially because the idea of exploring the ever-growing God Complex of the Doctor is long overdue. I’m not going to say I disliked this episode, because it was fun and interesting, but it definitely fell short in a lot of ways. Continue reading “The God Complex: Faith and failure”

Night Terrors: Dolls and Dark Hallways

This post contains minor spoilers (episode specific). I have no intro for you today… it’s late and what I really want to do is go to sleep. But before we get into anything… can I just say how much I loved that, at the very beginning of the episode, Amy and Rory are just sipping tea on the TARDIS? I mean, I know they must eat while in deep space… but the act of them drinking tea in the spaceship/time machine, just chillin… was awesome. Moving on. Let’s Kill Hitler: a tingling sensation and a deadly kiss

FINALLY, Doctor Who is back. I’m not sure how I feel about this “summer break” thing, but that’s not what I want to talk about today. But before I talk about what I want to talk about, you should know that there are MAJOR spoilers in this post, so you’ve been warned. WAAAAARNED. Moving on.
