[Day 350] Eating Animals, a book discussion
Aug.1,2010A lot of you are probably not familiar with the Strega Nona books. They are picture books for kids written and illustrated by Tomie dePaola which have very strong Italian tones. That’s probably why most of you haven’t heard of them; my family, or at least my dad’s side of the family, is very very proud and sorta obsessed with their Italian roots. Read More…
My book snob readers will rejoice: my first mention of classic literature. Foreign classic literature, to boot. Albert Camus is a much more “respectable” and “well known” writer than, say, Tamora Pierce.* So I hope that this post, in part, makes up for my defense of Twilight last Wednesday. Read More…
I know I made a jab at the Hardy Boys last week, and I can’t reasonably say that the Nancy Drew series was much better written. But this isn’t “books with the bestest ever writing that every critic can accept and fall in love with” week. It’s “books that changed my life” week, which, while it isn’t mutually exclusive, doesn’t have to fall into that category. Read More…

Once I finished it, I shut the book, looked at it on my bed, picked it up again, and read it all over again. Read More…
I’m sorry. It’s been kind of a Harry Potter leaning couple of weeks. I dunno what it is; maybe I’m super psyched for the new movie, or maybe I’d just forgotten how much I love the books. But either way, it wouldn’t seem right to have a whole week about books that changed my life and not include J.K Rowlings’ masterpieces. Read More…
[Bri 2.0 BONUS!] Harry Potter vs. Twilight
Jul.4,2010A few days ago, after my Marooned Week blog about Harry Potter, an anonymous commenter requested that I spend some time discussing the Harry Potter/Twilight controversy. “Could you please do a blog on the whole Twilight vs. Harry Potter debacle? For example the popularity of the movies vs the books etc.” Read More…
This is a response to “Why I Hate Twilight“. The author gives 95 reasons, which I have posted below to adequately respond to. My response will be in red.
For my AP Lit class, we were assigned to do outside, classic literature reading and then do a big project on the book we chose. I read God Bless You Mr. Rosewater last time, and loved it. It was strange, yes, but surprisingly decent. So this time, I decided to move onto Vonnegut’s most popular book, Slaughterhouse V. Read More…
