From Avila To Madrid

IMG_4488After three days of Avila with just Kelly, Margaret, and me, today we met up with the rest of our travel writing and spanish culture group in Madrid. The feel is very different from place to place- Avila was much more old-fashioned and small-town, while Madrid is absolutely a bustling, modern city. I loved Avila, which if you’re my friend on Facebook you could probably tell from all the pictures I’ve posted (don’t worry, blogglings, I’ll have travel vlogs for you, and I’ll probably post a bunch of pictures later), but I think I’m going to equally love Madrid.

Even though I’m totally broke, I am so, SO glad I’m on this trip. It was worth it after the first day, and it can only get better from here. And in related news, my budget is working super well and I’m actually well within it! WOO!!

Hola para Espana!

The view outside our hotel

Just wanted to give ya’ll a quick update before my “real” blog goes up later today (which will be nighttime for me and late morning for you). Margaret, Kelly, and I made it to our hotel in Avila, Spain with no problems and plenty of time in the day to spare. It’s about 1:45pm here, so after catching our breath from traveling so far, we’re gonna find food and explore.

It’s colder here than I expected. It’s colder here than we ALL expected, so now we’re thinking we might need to do a spot of shopping to survive the rest of the trip. All of my clothes are sleeveless and the warmest thing I have is a thin, cotton cardigan. This should be interesting.

But Spain is beautiful, I already love it here, and I’ve found that I remember a lot more from Spanish class than I previously thought I would. Check in soon!

PS. I would have posted this five hours ago but the internet was being weird in then we all fell asleep.

I’d Like To Lodge a Complaint

Photo on 5-20-13 at 9.31 AMCan I just tell you about the day I’ve been having? But first, some context.

I go to college in Oregon, but I’m originally from Colorado. This meant that, when I turned 21 and my driver’s license expired, I was out of state and couldn’t gt a new, “adult” license. After a very rude DMV employee berated me over the phone back in January, I sent a $3 check to the Colorado Division of Motor or whatever, in Denver, to get a sticker that extends my license for another year, until I could get BACK to Colorado to renew it for real. I did this. Continue reading “I’d Like To Lodge a Complaint”

A Very Pacific Senior Year

…is about to commence. Today is my last day of my junior year of college. Holy graduation, Batman!

It feels like just yesterday Rachel and I were whining about how college seemed so far away, and now we’re about to freaking graduate. I mean, yeah, we have a year, but still.

It’s just so weird to think that this time next year I’ll be moving into an apartment or a shared house and getting a full time job and not going to class ever again. School has been such a massive part of my life for essentially the entirety of said life, and it’s ending in a year. What the heck am I going to do with my time?!

Sorry, it’s hard for me to focus on this blog because Quinn and I are at Maggies and he’s helping me edit my short story about vampires before our next class together. It’s really coming along, this silly little story, and I can’t remember being happier with a piece as a whole. It’s nineteen pages of jokes about vampirism and being Italian but somehow coalesces into a really cute story about friendship and cultural differences. I’m not sure which draft that happened in, but I’m glad it happened in any case.

Then we watched the new Audi commercial with Zachary Quinto (SWOON) and Leonard Nimoy, which is ADORABLE, then Quinn made me watch the Leonard Nimoy song about Bilbo Baggins, which is HILARIOUS.

Basically, it’s been a good day and I’m almost an adult. That is all.
