STEVE EFFING KLUGER IS THE EFFING MAN!!

Three posts in one day. I know, I know. I’m sorry. But holy crap. HOLY CRAP. So remember Steve Kluger, the author of my absolute favorite book in the world, The Last Days of Summer? I write about him so much he has his own “tag” (check the tag cloud to the right of this blog and a bit further down, and you’ll see what I mean). I love his books and I love his writing and… yeah. I’m probably one of his biggest fangirls ever. Anyways.

[Day 304] BCILAAMTBW Week 4: Charlie Banks

Two Charlies in two days! A mini-mini arc! I doubt many of you will recognize this character’s name, so I’ll fill you in: Charlie Banks is one of the two main characters in The Last Days of Summer, my favorite book that I mention in all sorts of different posts. (here and here and here and here and here and here) Charlie is the 3rd baseman for the New York Giants and regular correspondent to Joey Margolis, the book’s 12 year old other main character. And Charlie and I are meant to be. Continue reading “[Day 304] BCILAAMTBW Week 4: Charlie Banks”

[Day 240] Do you want a cookie?

I read my favorite book, The Last Days of Summer by Steve Kluger, over Easter weekend, and as usual, I cried uncontrollably. My mom found me sobbing, but wasn’t concerned, since she noticed the book in my hands. For some reason, though, I still felt like I owed her an explanation. Unfortunately, I can’t articulate, or even enunciate, anything when I cry. And as I thought about this, I realized something.

[Day 184] Happy Birthday Anthony!

I should probably clarify that Anthony is a fictional character in the exceptional book My Most Excellent Year by Steve Kluger. Now, I’ve talked about Steve Kluger a lot on this blog. I reviewing his Almost Like Being in Love before, and have cited The Last Days of Summer as my favorite book of all time.

I just thought I’d point out another book that I would absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone. I love, love, love it. It makes me laugh every time I read it, even though I’m accustomed to the repartee of the characters after many re-readings.

Che-che-check it out!

Traits of an Excellent Writer

So I was gonna do a YouTube video instead of a blog today, but now I can’t, because I’m sobbing my eyes out and sniffling.

Steve Kluger really got me this time. His book, My Most Excellent Year, was, to put it simply, excellent. Even the tenth time reading it I laugh. For my birthday, I got an Amazon gift card, so I bought Larry and the Meaning of Life by Janet Tashjian, and The Last Days of Summer by Steve Kluger. I finished Larry and loved it, and then I finished Kluger’s book today.

Set in post-Depression WW2 era, the book is written in a series of news articles, telegraphs, and letters. I’m terrible at book reviews, but I’ll give you a list of things you’ll find in this story: young love, baseball, war, friendship, absent fathers, Jewish culture, and witty, clever writing. I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest this book to everyone. I think anyone can enjoy this book, because it’s so well written.

When I went to tell my mom I finished the book, since we swap books a lot, she was surprised to find me crying. I’d been reading it around the house for the past two days and laughing almost the entire time. Steve Kluger is truly an author I’m glad to have found.
