That girl
Submitted by Bri on September 20, 2007 - 16:57.
This poem is called a sestina... it's organized by the last words in the sentences.... I don't feel like typing the arrangement of the sestets, so... yeah. Here it is...
That girl
There once was a girl
Who was always alone
And the thing that meant everything was time
She didn’t care what they thought
She didn’t care where she was
She was just herself
And being herself
An original girl
There was one thing she never was
She never had friends, she was always alone
And I always thought
That she would get some, in time
She was nice enough all the time
And she was never anything but herself
But no one ever thought
That one simple girl
Would, on her own, always alone
Amount to anything she thought she was
But I found I was
Wrong, not once, but all the time
She liked being alone
Being by herself
Where she could be the girl
Who didn’t have to be anything else, she thought
It took her awhile to realize this, she thought
she would never be happy. She was
Just that stupid lonely girl
She shied away from time
Because it reflected on herself
All those lost minutes where she mourned alone
But hark! She’ll not be alone
Again. She thought
It through, and decided with herself
That after all the torment, she was
Still worth something, and time
Didn’t seem, anymore, to bother that poor girl.
I’m not going to be alone, but I don’t think I ever was
I used to think that the clock was out to get me, stupid silly time
I was the one who found herself, in that lonely, forlorn girl
