dateline

It's terrible to say, but every time they catch creepers on the internet, I think it's unfair.
Is it just for a person to go "undercover" and lie about themselves to catch internet predators? isn't that kind of fighting fire with fire?

Sometimes I feel bad about

Submitted by Bri's Soldier of Awesomness on August 16, 2008 - 14:35.

Sometimes I feel bad about it, too! Especially when they're obviously really broken up about being on Television. I mean, how embarassing.

It would be hard to find them any other way, though. It would probably be better to educate kids more, so they're smart enough to realize that talking to creeps on the net is a bad idea. You're right, though- putting it on television is kind of a mean idea.

I feel no sorrow...

Personally, I think its fine to find them on the internet, there really is no other way to do it. And I don't think it's bad to show them on T.V. because they should feel horrible/ embarrassed about what they've done.

You say that now, but you

Submitted by Bri's Soldier of Awesomness on August 16, 2008 - 16:17.

You say that now, but you aren't someone that was humiliated on dateline.
Someone that needs to do that obviously isn't mentally healthy- why should we ruin someone's life any more just because something is wrong with them?
I agree with you about doing undercover searches- just don't show it to millions of strangers.
putting it on tv obviously doesn't help, either. People keep preying on children even after they've been caught on dateline multiple times. It's not like it's effective. It's just "good television."

If they were humiliated...

Submitted by Godfather on August 16, 2008 - 17:15.

Then they deserved it, preying on kids is something to be ashamed of. Yes, if they are mentally unhealthy, then it isn't good for it to be on T.V. but they do need to get help or go into a hospital. The few I've seen though there have been just sick perverts that lie even when they're on T.V. and say they didn't mean to do anything, while in their truck lies a different story.

I don't think people

Submitted by Bri's Soldier of Awesomness on August 16, 2008 - 19:02.

I don't think people deserved to be humiliated because there is something wrong with their mental health. Caught and helped, definitely, but stripped of any dignity? No.
That being said, only really virtuous people are able to say, "yes, I've done something wrong." They don't even have to be sick. Just because someone tries to lie about their faults doesn't mean we should boo and hiss at them... mostly because everyone tries to get around admitting they've done something wrong. We can't get all righteous just because we aren't the ones being laughed at during that second.
