[Day 52] Here’s to you

When my brother and I were growing up, we often spent time with friends of the family Megan and David. David was three years older than Megan, and I was almost two years older than Vinny, my own brother. I remember how flabbergasted my brother and I would be when Megan and David would fight. And let me tell you, they fought. The reason we were so surprised, though, was because we didn’t fight. At all. Ever. Continue reading “[Day 52] Here’s to you”

[Day 51] A nicety in Haiku

You walked behind me

My hands were totally full

I still held the door

This haiku post brings me to something else; I will be traveling next Wednesday and Thursday and will be unable to post anything, but I’ve had an idea. I’m going to update my Twitter with my post for that day and I’ll have my dad copy and paste it into an actual blog. They may be a bit dissatisfying, but it’s the best I can do. Plus, 140 characters is tough to confine yourself to.

[Day 50] End Quote

Ah, sleep. It’s a wonderful thing, but unfortunately it is something that I rarely get to enjoy- or experience at all, in fact. So when the opportunity presents itself to me to get more sleep, I jump at it. Today was one such day. The sophomores had to take a PLAN test, a practice ACT, and so all morning classes were replaced with some sort of ju-jitsu presentation or something. I didn’t know what it was, and I didn’t care. All I knew was that I was gonna sleep in for an extra four hours. Continue reading “[Day 50] End Quote”

[Day 48] What about me, Mr. Coit?

On my first day of kindergarten, there was only one person I knew, and her name was Olivia. We’d been in the same gymnastics class, which seems to have made a more lasting impression on her, being a dancer now and all. So when I stepped into the room with hundreds of toys lined up on the rows of desks, I noticed her and didn’t leave her side the entire day. I was terrified, so a familiar face was reassuring. [Day 47] I can do math!

Dear Natalie Tran,

I don’t remember exactly when I first started watching your videos, but let me tell you, it was a day that changed my life forever. My parents have actually threatened to take my computer away from me because I spent more time watching your videos over and over again than I do anything else. While you were away doing your short film for school (I follow you on Twitter as well) I hid my sadness by watching all of your videos… again. Continue reading “[Day 47] I can do math!”

Atman

Atman is a god in the Buddhist/Hindu religion. Atman is also a state, a state of happiness, a state of wisdom, a state of self-acceptance, and above all, a state of peace.

I bring along this introduction to a rather incomprehensible state because I feel I have reached it. At least, for a temporary period.

For me, yesterday was an out of body experience. Not just one moment yesterday, but the whole day. I walked through experiencing things from the third person.

It was interesting to look back on everything and realize just how little I care about anything other than being happy with who I am. Honestly, if you don’t like me enough to say hi or make the occasional effort you’re not worth my time. But, because I am who I am, that doesn’t mean I won’t give it to you. And, I like it that way.

[Day 45] Mrs. Nerimon?

One of the best things about getting older is being able to talk to your parents as if you’re almost equals.  I say almost because if I slip up and swear or say something inappropriate then I can still get grounded. But almost equals is better than them calling each other “mommy” and “daddy” and having to tell me that there comes a point in life where you can’t wear gaudy, flowery, spandex bike shorts out in public anymore.
