I’m not a big fan of what my best friend considers “chick rockâ€. Most musicians I listen to have male vocalists, with a few notable exceptions, and you have become one of these notable exceptions in the past few weeks.
Lyrics are a big thing for me in deciding whether or not I like a musician or a band. I knew you had an amazing voice from Camp Rock (I’m not ashamed to admit that I still watch Disney Channel sometimes), but a good voice doesn’t always make you a good artist. When I listen to music, the first thing I notice is what the song is about. And your songs really hit home with me, which is why I’m writing to thank you today.
Your song “Here We Go Again†is the primary reason I started listening to your music more frequently. Although the situation I associate the song with is a friendship rather than a relationship, I appreciated the fact that the lyrics were truthful. You didn’t try to hide how you felt about it, and you didn’t glamorize the occasion. It is what it is, and that’s exactly what came through. When I listen to your music, I don’t feel so ridiculous about my “teen girl anticsâ€.
I just mean that your music has a certain emotional connection that I rarely find anymore, and I’m thankful for that. It’s an awful thing to believe that you’re alone in the world and that no one understands you, but when I listen to your lyrics and smile in recognition of the feelings invoked, I know that my insecurity is unwarranted. The way I figure, if a celebrity can write a song about the things I’m feeling, then I’m sure to find at least two or three “regular†people with those feelings as well.
In order to wrap up what must seem extremely odd, thank you. Thank you for writing truthfully, and from the heart. I look forward to what your next record will have to offer.
Regards,
Bri
Demi Lovato lives in Nashville, I was like 20 yards from her this summer at a hotel. Her and Taylor Swift!!!!
That’s pretty neat, Cody. But don’t get started on Taylor Swift 😉
