Ok. So I got a free wallet in exchange for a short little video review. They actually didn’t even tell me to be nice, they just asked for a review. But since I loved the wallet so much, obviously I was going to give it a good review.
This will probably bring up a lot of “selling out” comments, and so I wanted to address these concerns.
At VidCon, I think it was the vlogvetica girls who responded to a question about their feelings on selling out. And one of them gave an answer that I agreed with wholeheartedly.
“I don’t consider doing something for money on the internet selling out unless you do it in a way that is unlike what you would normally do.”
I have actually been thinking about a blog/vlog about wallets for a while, and the opportunity to make a video about a subject I was already considering for a free wallet didn’t seem like a bad deal. This video is the same as all my other videos, but I got something out of it. And I don’t think that’s selling out.
Look, I didn’t have the twenty dollars cash to buy the wallet. I’m an internet person. I don’t have a job. The temporary one I did have for babysitting kind of screwed me over. (ex: I worked for 44 ish hours, babysitting and house sitting, and was paid $150. If you do the math, I got about $3.50 an hour. Minimum wage is $8 in Colorado.)
I didn’t compromise my creativity or my integrity by making this video, and if anyone ever approaches me with an offer like this again, I’ll probably take it.
you would hate my wallet 🙂 it’s six inches long and has shiny purple leopard print 🙂 the pinnacle of feminism
