[Day 322] Surviving High School Tip #6: Study Hall

This post is actually about both study hall and releases, but I’m trying to make my titles less wordy. I don’t know how your school will handle these periods, so I’m just going to have to assume that every school works the way mine does. If yours doesn’t, you’re on your own. But there might be something useful here, so read on.

Tips:

1. If you have the opportunity, take a release over study hall. This gives you the freedom to come and go as you like. I’ll talk about this in a bit.

2. If you have the opportunity, take your release or study hall in the morning, first thing if possible. Your brain is functioning at a higher level in the morning, so you’ll get more done. Also, if you didn’t get something done the night before, you have some extra time. Or, if you’re like me and OCD about getting behind, you can get a head start on homework you know you’ll be assigned.*

3. If you have a release and it’s first thing in the morning, I’d recommend not sleeping in. I know high school starts way too early. I know it’s hard to get up in the mornings. But your free period will be better spent doing work and getting ahead. Less stress, more productivity. Also, you might miss an important announcement.

4. The library is your friend. Some study hall teachers are stingy about allowing students to go to the library, which is all the more reason to take a release. The library is quiet, so there aren’t many distractions, and it has computers/printers. The library is the best place to get stuff done, because it has all the materials you could possibly need.

*this year a lot of my teachers gave me unit or month plans, so I’d know when things were due and what notes I’d need to take each night. So I would use my morning release to do that night’s homework. It’s less difficult than you would think, and it made it so that I rarely ever did homework at home. (This was also helpful because I had this silly blog project to do)

Good tips and i def agree. Except, I like study hall right before lunch, because I can do homework i haven’t done for my afternoon classes, or the homework from my morning classes for tomorrow. Orrrr if nothing is going on, ditch and go out to lunch. Shhhhh 🙂

What's up, my dudes?
