[Bri 2.0 BONUS!] Harry Potter vs. Twilight

A few days ago, after my Marooned Week blog about Harry Potter, an anonymous commenter requested that I spend some time discussing the Harry Potter/Twilight controversy. “Could you please do a blog on the whole Twilight vs. Harry Potter debacle? For example the popularity of the movies vs the books etc.”

I’ll be honest, there really isn’t a lot to say. I don’t understand why there is a debacle in the first place. They’re completely different. Sure, they both have strong fantasy elements, but that’s about where the similarity ends. Saying that you have to choose between HP and Twilight is like saying you have to choose between chocolate and vanilla.

What if I don’t want to choose one over the other? What if I usually like vanilla, but I’ll indulge in chocolate on occasion? It doesn’t have to be a competition.

And furthermore, I’m not really sure what there is to say about the popularity of the books and movies. I think that both series have had difficulties with their page-to-screen translation, although Twilight certainly got the shorter end of the stick. Those movies are atrocious. The Harry Potter movies have at least been getting better.

There doesn’t have to be a debacle. Maybe you like Twilight, or Harry Potter, or both. It doesn’t matter. They aren’t really comparable. Everyone just needs to stop being so touchy. Sheesh.

I’m just gonna fit my housekeeping into this post, since I doubt I’ll have much time to do another bonus blog in the next week. I’m two blogs away from finishing my final theme week, books that changed my life. Which is good, because when I’m not sleeping next week, I’ll either be babysitting or at VidCon, so there won’t be a lot of time for blogging. I’ll try to tweet a lot and maybe post the occasional iPhone video. But I’m not promising anything.

I really like theme weeks, so if there are any ideas at all that you have, lemme know. I only have three other blog ideas (individual blogs, not theme weeks), plus the random Eugenia update.

Speaking of which, Eugenia will actually be posted this Tuesday and then next Wednesday. Not Mondays. Because that’s not possible. I apologize for my inability to do basic math.

Other than that, I really don’t know what else there is to say, other than please please please promote the site because I work really hard on it. Thanksies.

  1. I have a theme week idea:
every day you make a post highlighting why you love me.
SIKE just kidding. I’m not that ego-centric.
In all seriousness, you should do one on like…favorite childhood memories…or things you like about yourself. You’re allowed to be ego-centric. 🙂

  2. you know i tried promoting your website by trying to indulge in a decent conversation but after reading this “blog” I’d have to say that i probably won’t be doing it much longer. This was rude and conceded. I’m pretty insulted. Try broadening your writing and become more personal.

    sincerely,
    Anonymous harry potter/ twilight person.

  3. Anonymous: I’m very sorry you feel that way. Nothing in this post was directed at you, I was just using your post suggestion. I’m not sure what you found rude, when I was being sarcastic I was pointing out that people who believe you’re only allowed to like one of the other are being silly. None of my very slight frustration was directed at you, and I hope you realize that. I was actually pleasantly surprised by your suggestion. I love when people ask me to discuss current events.
I hope this clears everything up!

What's up, my dudes?
