[Day 246] I know, I know

So today I was supposed to post my Will Grayson Will Grayson review, but then I ended up being at school working on the freaking newspaper until 8:30, and I wanted the review to be worthy of the writing, so I guess I’ll have to postpone it again. I also left my glasses in the bathroom but I’m too tired to go get them, so here’s another creepy snippet of the novel I wrote in 7th grade, Ash. Keep in mind that at this point in the storyline, Sunny, our protagonist, is 14. Barely a freshman in high school.

“Ah, Sunny! How nice to see you again!” Sneered Loony. He pressed a button to his right, sending a wave of electricity through my veins. I gritted my teeth, but did not allow myself to flinch. He smiled ruefully and pressed it again. My muscles tensed up as they had when I first used my powers, yet this was more gripping. I shook it off with a toss of my head, but my eyes never ceased from staring venomously at Loony.

“First on the agenda, gloat and explain my evil plot. Write this down,” He added to a stuttering boy around the age of ten. His skin was browned and he trembled with the pen. “Second, explain how everything is working out. Write faster, boy. Third, gloat some more and explain why I haven’t killed you yet. Fourth, give her a demonstration. You got all that boy?”

“Ye’sir”

Someone is feeling strong, I thought to myself.

“Now, read to me the first thing on my agenda.” Loony held his nose high, as if he were superior. I would’ve snorted if I were not so concentrated on keeping a straight face.

“Gloat and explain your evil plot.” Poor kid. He looked terrified, especially after Loony had mentioned a “demonstration”.

“Excellent. Ok, I think I’ll gloat first. Ha ha ha, the little ‘chosen’ Sunny Larkson is captured by an evil man, and only she can stop him, if she can get away from his shocker machine and get out of her shackles!” He finished the last bit with a very shrill tone of voice. “And now, for my evil plot. I guess I must merge step one and three to explain this. I have not killed you because I want you on my side. It’s a good thing you turned out so pretty, so I wouldn’t be afraid of my master’s…queen. I am capturing all the children in the world with a little help from my master’s skill.

“Once all the children in the world are captured, then all futures will be lost, and the world will have to obey my master!”

I frowned. “What does he do?” I asked before I could stop myself. Curse my untamable curiosity! Curse it!

“Ah, I’m glad you asked. For the second thing on my agenda, what has been happening? My master will use an invisibility spell on the child we want, then on another one of my troupe. After that, since invisible people can see each other, my troupe member will gag the child and carry them back to the headquarters.” Invisible people can see each other? He said it as if I should know that. “It is long work, with only one sorcerer. But we get over it. If we take all the children of the world, then the world shall have no future. Without a future, my master will take over. So, will you assume position of our head magician and future queen of the Earth and all around it?” He changed the subject and brought the question on so quickly, it startled me.

“Never.” I snarled, my teeth gritted, regaining my composure.

Loony narrowed his eyes. “Wrong answer.”

I grunted as another shock ran through my body. Loony turned to the little boy. “Run along and get one of the guards. Tell him I need him for a demonstration.”

“Ye’sir,” He looked like he was going to be sick.

I stared at Loony, trying to decode the ugly, evil grin that had suddenly appeared across his features.

The little boy came back, leading a guard.

“You wanted me, sir?”

“Yes, yes. Good. Now, may I have your sword for a moment, please?”

“Yes, sir”

Oh, God, they were going to kill me!

“Marin,” I assumed this was the little boy, “please go stand in the middle of the room.”

“Y-ye’sir” he said.

Huh?

“Mr. Guard, will you be so kind as to release Miss Larkson from her shackles?”

“Yes, sir,”

As ‘Mr. Guard’ began to unlock the iron clasps, Loony went over to the boy, sword in hand.

“This is what happens when you make me angry,” said Loony, raising the weapon.

Then he swung it, hitting the boy square in the chest. There was a sickening ‘thunk’ and the boy let out a small squeak. Then he fell to the floor, already dead but still twitching from the impact.

I fell to the floor, adding to my ongoing list of injuries. “No!” I cried. Once again someone innocent was killed right in front of me, while I didn’t do a thing. I had already broken the promise I made to myself upon the subject of having it happen a third time.

Loony turned to the guard, a sick smile of triumph across his face. Handing him his sword, he said, “Tell the others that it is tonight.” Then he turned to me. “Good day, Miss Larkson. Good luck getting out of the cell.”

He and the guard walked out, slamming the thick metal door behind them. I ran to it painfully, just in time to see Loony hang the keys just out of reach from the small, barred window I peered out of.

I sat down, hard, in the back corner of the room, as far away from the dead boy as I could. I put my head in my knees. There was no way I was going to eat the little boy, no matter how hungry I would get. Briefly I thought of Battery, but someone must have caught -and most likely killed- him too, or else Loony wouldn’t have hung the keys in plain sight like that.

So as I sat there, with the smell of cold, dead flesh hanging in the air, I stopped planning. I stopped plotting. I stopped fighting my impending demise. I was through. It was over.

So in that cage, alone with only a dead body for company, I gave up. There was nothing more I could do.

As it started getting darker -I could see outside from a small barred window in the ceiling- I started getting hungry, and suddenly the dead boy wasn’t looking so disgusting anymore.

What's up, my dudes?
