[Day 9] Naturally Curious

Two years ago, standing in the sophomore hall of our high school, my friends and I found a folded note on top of the fire Photo 265extinguisher. The paper was a bright yellow and inside, there was some text and handwriting both. The text read: What’s YOUR secret? Write down one of your school-appropriate secrets that not many know for the yearbook. If you feel comfortable, you can write your name. If not, that’s ok too. Thanks! The person who was given this slip of paper wrote something profane that I won’t repeat but had to do with… relations with another student that we all knew.

We weren’t entirely sure who wrote the message or why they wrote it, but needless to say, we found it hillarious. I was thinking about that today in the library as I sat typing up psychology notes and attempting to understand why my government teacher left eleven pages of reading off of the syllabus. I knew I had to give something away, but what?

The answer came quickly once I thought of the yellow note. What if I left a note, or multiple notes, with a message that was a bit more appropriate? Whipping out my notebook for scrap paper, I ripped a small corner off and write “you are beautiful”. Folding it in half once, I wrote “Confidential” on the outside. I figured that would make people a bit more curious to read it, and it also gave me a kick. Did anyone else write that on the outside of notes and letters when you were a kid because it made you feel like a spy? Maybe that was just me.

Photo 267I figure that it doesn’t matter who finds the notes, which I placed in the library and my psych, gov, and newspaper classes. Even if the person doesn’t realize that it’s meant for them, they would assume that it was meant for someone else. And isn’t it nice to think that people write notes to other people telling them that they are beautiful? I think we should write each other notes more often. Just little things that we slip into backpacks and lockers. It always puts a smile on my face to find things that other people have written, especially if they’re happy things. It gives me hope for this seemingly desolate world. And that’s exactly what I need right now. Hope.

  1. Liz: Yeah, or bi-curiosity

Bri: You should continue doing that, though with different messages

What's up, my dudes?
