Remember when I set 10 resolutions for myself at the beginning of the year? I do, because I torture myself with them every waking moment! Enough small talk, let’s see how I’m doing!
1. Take care of your damn self.- Incomplete
This one can’t really be fully evaluated until the end of the year, but, like, I’ve eaten almost 100% more salads than last year, when I ate maybe 2, so… progress? I’m gonna try to start walking in the mornings, I think, and I’m like 75% of the way to getting a therapist again, so… we’ll see how that goes.
2. Film another season of a web series you write. -Partial completion
In two weeks this will be complete!!
3. Find a full-time job you don’t hate, or at LEAST series of steady part time jobs that pay rent. -Partial completion
I really like my temp job at MTV, which seems to be going well and may last longer than initially anticipated, but I’ve also got feelers out for other opportunities, both within Viacom and elsewhere.
4. Leave New York state at least twice. -Partial completion
I went to Boston for my little bro’s graduation in May, and in August I’m hopefully heading home to Colorado for my best friend’s wedding reception!
5. Write a new draft of SLJ. -Complete
COMPLETE! It’s still got a long way to go, but I’m really happy with it.
6. Write 2 new short stories. -Complete
They’re called “Hotline” and “Instacouple.” The former is about a hotline for superheroes wanting to schedule their villain showdowns away from society to cut down on infrastructure destruction, and the latter was adapted from the pilot of a new web series I’m working on about Instagram celebrities.
7. Find a slam poetry venue and perform. -Partial completion
Turns out Monday night is a popular one for NYC poetry, and since I was in school until about a month ago exclusively on Monday nights, I wasn’t able to attend any of the slams I found. I just gotta go actually do it now.
8. Learn two new production skills. -Complete
This season of Brains I directed an episode, which counts as like eight production skills and which was so amazing. I mean, look at the wonderful idiots I got to work with:
I also learned how to discuss distribution options, how to network, and how to put together a press release/press kit. Plus I’m better at all the skills I learned last year, so this resolution is definitely fulfilled.
9. Stay in touch with people better. -Partial completion
This is another one that I can’t really evaluate until the end of the year, but I’ve been slightly better at keeping in touch with people within the city and I’ve been making an effort in general to be available.
10. Work on a set/production for something I didn’t write. – Incomplete
I haven’t been able to do this yet because of other engagements the couple times it’s almost worked out, but I’ve promised to help a variety of people with upcoming projects, so hopefully schedules will match up soon.
FINAL TALLY:
Complete: 3
Partial completion: 5
Incomplete: 2
That’s pretty good for 6 months. Anyone else have resolutions they’ve been working on? How’re they going?
