[Day 326] Books that changed my life week 2: Alanna the Lioness
I don’t know how many of you are familiar with Tamora Pierce, so here’s a rundown: she’s a young adult fantasy novelist who specializes in stories about young women overcoming an oppressively masculine time period as knights. It’s like nerdy feminism. I remember buying the first book in the Alanna the Lioness series in Denver. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it, but it looked interesting, so I spent the entire day finishing it. [Day 19] Join the ranks of the Komai!

I remember picking up Alanna: The First Adventure while on vacation when I was in 7th grade. I’d never read fantasy before, so it was a new experience. The back of the book looked promising, and the idea of a girl masquerading as a boy appealed to my tomboy attitude. When I finished the first read, I put it down on my bed, thought about it for a moment, and picked it up again. I read it at least five more times in the period of a week.
