Sorry about not posting yesterday, I was busier than expected after possibly the busiest week of my life. Also, we had our first forensics tournament Friday thru Sunday at Lewis and Clark College, so that took up most of my time. It went well, with most of our students (including me, in debate) breaking to quarterfinals and final rounds in something. This is the most freshmen we’ve had in at least four years, which is also exciting. Five of them competed at this tournament, and four others are interested in the next ones. Woo!

Something I noticed this weekend was that I’m really lacking in my energy when it comes to interp events. Interps are the ones where you take existing poems or prose and perform them, like minimalist theater. It isn’t that I don’t like the pieces I chose- I’ve got snippets from Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia!), George Watsky, Anis Mojgani, and Andrea Gibson. It’s just that, after getting so heavily into slam poetry, it’s hard for me to perform other people’s work. I just want to read my words, about my silly thoughts and ideas, not someone else’s. I love writing and performing my own poetry, and I’ve been doing it so much that performing anyone else’s just seems false and disingenuous. I’ll have to work on that for the upcoming season, but now that I’ve gotten a taste for doing my own thing, I don’t know if I can ever go back.
In other news, both photography and digital imaging are over now, so every day I don’t have class until 1pm, which after two days is already a miracle. Yesterday morning after an entire week of not sleeping past 7am and not going to bed until well after 11pm, I slept in, did my laundry, took a nice long shower, and finished a bunch of homework that I didn’t have time for over the weekend. Then I watched some 30 Rock and went to class. It was perfect, I didn’t stress out at all, and I think the rest of this semester is going to work itself out.
This week is looking like the week I’m going to spend catching back up on my life and homework, which should be nice. We’ve got two hilarious Cooking with Gandalfs ready to upload, and we’re gearing up for filming our Halloween episode in the next few weeks, so look out for that!
