Remember that time I wrote a blog at the beginning and end of last semester, talking about my expectations and final thoughts on my classes? That was cool. I liked that. So I’m gonna do it again, since tomorrow I leave Colorado again for my junior year of college! Continue reading “Fall 2012: Classes and Expectations”

HOW TO: Make the Most of Your Dorm Room
Let’s face it; when you move in, your dorm room, whether it’s your first or last year of college, looks like a partially furnished mental prisoner’s room. It’s hard to make it feel like home when you know you have to move out in a year, and you can’t repaint or install shelving, but that’s where I come in. Today, you’ll learn how to make the most of your dorm room, temporary as it is. Continue reading “HOW TO: Make the Most of Your Dorm Room”

The 15 Worst Parts About College
A lot of you seem to like lists, so here ya go! The 15 worst parts about college.
1. Walking up and down four flights of stairs to do laundry once a week.
2. People having sex in the next room, apparently unaware how thin the walls are.
3. Neighbors blasting dubstep at 4am.
4. Finding yourself in an unfamiliar city with unfamiliar people and trying to make a home out of it.
5. Core requirements that are completely unrelated to your intended field of study.
6. Freshmen orientation.
7. Moving in.
8. Moving out (packing up all the stuff you’ve collected over the year, finding places to sell back textbooks, getting a storage shed, etc, all while trying to study for finals)
9. Running out of meals on your meal plan a month before Christmas break.
10. Core requirements.
11. Mindless prerequisites for the classes you actually want to take.
12. Missing class for an activity (sports, speech and debate, etc) and catching hell from the one professor who doesn’t believe the world turns unless you’re in his classroom or doing his homework.
13. Being completely alone at first.
14. Knowing you’ll have to move out of the dorms and onto real life soon, with next to no safety net.
15. Core requirements.

HOW TO: Never Be Late To Anything Ever Again
My mother and I share a punctual trait that, though in some cases can be inconvenient, is generally a helpful trait to have. I am rarely late to class, meetings, dates, movies, parties, etc, and even if I’m generally the first one to arrive (which can be awkward when it’s a party), I never miss anything. Especially now that I’m in college, where I have complete control over my schedule (no parents waking me up for school), this punctual trait has come in handy. Why pay for school if you aren’t going to go to class, or you miss the first ten minutes every day? So these are my tips to never be late to anything ever again. If you’ve ever had problems with this, I promise, if you even follow a couple of these tips, you’ll come out ahead. Continue reading “HOW TO: Never Be Late To Anything Ever Again”

Things you should always bring to class
….regardless of what kind of class it is. Unless it’s an art class. In that case, your teacher will usually provide you with a list of things you need. Other than that, listen up! I cannot TELL you how many times I’ve seen someone get in trouble because they didn’t bring something, or how many times I’ve had to loan someone’s paper, pencil, etc during class. That’s why I made this handy list, so that none of us will ever be unprepared again! Continue reading “Things you should always bring to class”
