[Day 327] Books that changed my life week 3: A Great and Terrible Beauty

The title of this post is so long the “[Da” is missing. Oops. It’s a wonder I tweet so much- character limits are not really my thing. None of this is relevant to the post, but I need something for the front page blurb, and I’m running out of creative ways to make them interesting and compelling enough. [QUICK!] Questions?!?

So I’m browsing around the internet, trying to decide what my next theme week will be, and I got an idea. Would you all be interested in a week of story beginnings? Like, I’d give you the first scene or chapter of a story that I’ll probably never finish but think are cool anyways. It’d definitely be a writing stretch for me. Would that interest you at ALL?

What about a “How To” week? It could be cool/funny/insightful. I actually like that one. I’m doing it NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY.

And just because I’m kind of killing time, here are my top books series that you should check out.

1. Harry Potter. Duh.

2. A Great and Terrible Beauty. If you like magical victorian age stories and sarcasm. Also, if you are a girl.

3. The Princess Diaries. Don’t judge me. These books are hillarious and surprisingly honest.

4. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Same as above, although less hillarious.

5. Song of the Lioness quartet. Alanna the Lioness was the first in this series. If you’re a girl and like medieval fantasy, this is for you.

kaljfakfha I have to meet my mom at the burrito place now. Ciao!

[Bri 2.0 BONUS!] Harry Potter vs. Twilight

A few days ago, after my Marooned Week blog about Harry Potter, an anonymous commenter requested that I spend some time discussing the Harry Potter/Twilight controversy. “Could you please do a blog on the whole Twilight vs. Harry Potter debacle? For example the popularity of the movies vs the books etc.” Continue reading “[Bri 2.0 BONUS!] Harry Potter vs. Twilight”

[Bri 2.0 BONUS!] In Defense of Twilight

Note from 2020: I won’t be editing this post but since it’s been getting a handful of views recently, please do keep in mind it was posted in 2010. I was 18 years old. I do not care about your opinions on Twilight and I barely care about my own. This lives on as an archive, not as a stated continued opinion or interest. If you want to know what my current interests are, check out my portfolio here.

With Eclipse coming out today, I felt it would be a good time to discuss a topic that’s been bugging me for a while. It seems like almost every self-proclaimed literature nerd on the internet absolutely hates the Twilight series, sometimes spilling over as a hatred for the author as well. And I think this is silly. So I thought that a post about why hating Twilight is stupid might be a good idea. If you don’t want to read it, though, I’ve included a video at the bottom of this post essentially saying the same thing as this post will. Continue reading “[Bri 2.0 BONUS!] In Defense of Twilight”

Three posts, one day?!?

I think blogging has become my excuse not to write. Like, write in novels and stuff. Which I really need to start doing. But blogging is so much more FUN. Actually, that’s a lie. It’s equally fun, but more immediately gratifying. Anyways. That’s not the point of this post. What is the point of this post? I actually don’t remember… Continue reading “Three posts, one day?!?”

[Bri 2.0 BONUS] On being alone

Last night, after hanging out at a friend’s house with a couple people playing ping pong and watching Food Network, I took my favorite Anakin Skywalker towel up to our second floor porch and lay on my back. It was a lightly stormy night, with enough clouds to facilitate the sporadic strikes of lighting but to also still see the stars. I found the Big Dipper and Casseopia, my favorite constellation by far. It was 83 degrees, if the sign on my way home was anything to go by, but the wind made it feel much cooler.
