[Day 28] There’s a party at the end of the world

Photo 357I love that it’s 7:34 in the morning and something good already happened. Every week on Fridays, Jason Mraz’s Twitter asks for fan questions, and then on Mondays (or in this case, Tuesdays) he writes a blog post with 12 of his favorite questions. I’m sure you can already guess why my day’s so good. 🙂

BrisOwnWorld: how do you clear your mind while meditating? I can never seem to do it and when I try it just stresses me out more…

I don’t think the mind ever gets quiet. To do that may take a lifetime of solitude and selfless service – but even then your mind will be talking. Meditation is all about how to work WITH the mind’s voice, teaching it to hum instead of ask questions and make up to-do lists.

If you’re first starting out, it is important you don’t judge yourself or put yourself down. If your mind wanders, let it wander. See where it wants to take you. If troubles come, just pay attention to your breathing. One of the goals in meditation is to allow your thoughts to find peace. Sometimes, in order to do that, you’ll have to get real with yourself and get complete with others you’d been inauthentic with in your life. Successful meditation can be measured by how much you weep in this practice of upright conscious sleep.

Try also a walking meditation. This is where you focus on every step you take. No step passes you by without you being conscious of it. The world in this practice becomes so vivid. Your central and nervous system become so connected that your thoughts can only make room for gratitude. It’s pretty bad-ass.
