[Day 6] Mack

Space Needle Almost a week in! Today is my day for writing something about my past.

“Mom, dad, I don’t want to be a girl anymore,” I inform my parents one day after school.

“Is that so?” My dad asks, hanging up my coat for me.

“Yes. From now on, my name is Mack.”

“Why Mack?”

“It’s a boy’s name.”

“Oh. Right.”

“Why the sudden gender change?” asked my mother, reading in her blue recliner.

“Boys have all the fun.” I slump into a chair at the dinner table. “They run around and play tag and do cool stuff. Girls just stand around talking and doing string things. That’s boring.”

“String things?”

“Like cat’s cradle. Anyways, the boys would let me be on their team during boys vs. girls if I was one of them. They’re cooler than girls too. Rex is giving me boy lessons tomorrow.”

“Interesting.” My dad said, frowning slightly. Looking back, I realize that there wasn’t much else he could say. His second grade daughter was well on her way to becoming his second grade son, and her argument was irrefutable.
