[Day 7] I’d Marry HIM!

The first week is over! Only 358 days to go. Today, I am supposed to write about something good that happened. Photo 164After this week I promise to stop writing what each day is, hoping that you’ll either infer it from the blog or look it up on the “Bri 2.0” tab at the top of the site.

I’ll say it right now: my half locker last year was more useful than my full locker this year. First, the grip to open the lock wasn’t awkward and never slipped out of my hands. Second, the usable shelf was at a reasonable height. And third, I don’t need all that much space.

Take all that built up frustration with my locker and add this sucker: it refused to open for me twice today. It even refused to let me turn the combination lock so I could start over. It was stuck, it housed my lunch, and I was hungry.

So I throw down my backpack and books I’m carrying to use both hands in a futile attempt to open my locker. I tried punching it, which used to work with my locker freshman year, but that didn’t help either. As I was struggling, the kid with the locker on the other side of the window (I’m on the left edge or a row, he’s on the right edge of a row) comes to his locker. His name is Chase. He plays tennis with my brother and I have three classes with him this year, but I’ve never really spoken to him. I’d barely consider us acquaintances. He looks at me kind of strangely as I’m grunting and fuming loudly, and I growl “My stupid locker is stuck!” He chuckles a little bit. “Can you try?” I then ask pathetically, stepping back and evaluating the situation. I see that the grip has moved slightly, so the combination isn’t the problem. This relieves me only slightly.

“Sure.” I step aside as he begins to wrestle with it. He tries twisting the lock and finds it stuck as well. “Yeah, I tried redoing the combination but it wouldn’t let me.” I tell him. He frowns and doesn’t answer. After more maneuvering he manages to get the lock unstuck and I put the combination back in, attempting to lift the grip myself again. It doesn’t work. So I step aside again and he uses both hands to shove the grip up. The locker opens!

“Thank you, Chase!” I exclaim. He laughs at my enthusiasm and replies with “Yeah, no problem.” I switch out my books, grab my lunch, and I’m set.

Then, after lunch, I realize that I must put away my lunch box and water bottle. Upon realizing this, I go to my locker, which again refuses to open for me. But luckily, Chase was just getting to his locker at the same time. “Um, Chase? It’s stuck again…”

He laughs and wrestles with the grip as my friends look on. Kelli is in the process of asking me a question. “Say you need to get married RIGHT NOW. Who at this school would you choose? I’m not talking for love, I’m talking for who could best provide and care for you. So who would it be?”

Chase pops open the locker again, and I grin triumphantly in thanks. “HIM!” I point.
