My Brain is in Belgium, My Heart is in Spain

IMG_3123I’m leaving for Belgium on Friday afternoon. The first week of April, I am attending (and presenting at) a national writing conference in Utah. At the end of May, Spain will welcome me into its borders for ten days, and on my way home a 23 hour layover in Frankfurt will make Germany the 7th European country I’ve visited, in just the last three years. What is my life.

Well, the short answer is “astonishingly broke”. But the better answer is “endlessly blessed.” I’ll be in Belgium for speech and Spain for class, further assuring me that my decision to remain in college was a good one. However, it does not change the fact that I am very, very broke.

Out of all the money I’ve dropped on these various trips, I still have to shell out cashola for food and (in Spain and Belgium at least) small souvenirs for friends/family. Also transit tickets (if applicable) and various other day-to-day costs while I’m in these countries/states. Also I still have to pay for food, etc, in college. And then I have to pay for things AFTER I get back from these likely amazing and definitely bank-breaking trips.

I don’t want to get bogged down in the money part because OH MY GOD I AM GOING SO MANY PLACES IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS AND I AM SO FREAKING LUCKY but seriously, dat shizz is expensive.

Anyways, I’m taking a quick blogging break from homework because if I didn’t I would have gone on a rampage. I forgot to eat before coming to work (where I will be for another hour and a half) and I have three essays due next week, while I am conveniently out of the country. All my professors are super understanding, but the fact remains that these trips are putting a cramp in my ability to keep up in class.

However, because I’m me, I think I might actually have two, if not all three, of the essays due next week done by Friday. I don’t mean to be cocky, but I am a very quick worker, especially when I have NOTHING ELSE TO DO.

Oh crap. I still gotta finish uploading slam videos. And start re-memorizing my speeches. And start memorizing the group poems we’re performing the Monday we return from Belgium. And still manage to have a pseudo-social life. Oh god. I have to go.

In other news my boyfriend and I are adorable. So. There’s always that.
