Because life's more fun under critical analysis

This post might sound very odd, but it’s an imitation of a poem we read today, called “Girl” by a poet named Jamaica Kincaid. This is a list of various pieces of advice my parents have given me over the years.

Journal

Because the computers on campus are somewhat inconvenient to get to and to be at, I decided to blog while I had the chance. My writing has been going very well, since that’s basically all I do. I read some, then I am given a general thought and am told to write about it for five to ten minutes. It yields interesting results. Examples: Read More…

Billboards

You are the same
Just like everyone else
The same clothes
Off the same shelves

The same names plastered
Across your chests
You feel powerful
You think it’s the best

You pay to be a billboard
Conformist to the peak
But something no one knows
Is that conformity is weak

I buy my clothes cheaper
They look the same as yours
But still you turn away from me
A strong, opposing force

I’m different and you hate it
But inside you know it’s true
That at the end of all your days
I shop smarter than you

Such a Mess

Just one phone call
It’s better than what it could have been
But in itself, it sucks
Just as bad
Why did it happen?
should I be worried?
Should I be afraid?
What else am I supposed to say?
What else am I supposed to do?
Suicide won’t sovle
I’m glad he saved your life
I don’t know what I’d do
If someone else had made that call,
With different news.
you have no idea

Human disease

What have we come to?
Money fills you up with greed
Together we stand weaker
We are the human disease

Trashing all the forests
But not replanting the seed
Fouling up the ozone
We are the human disease

Some think theyre better than others
Most think theyre better than me
Stereotypes lead to suicide
We are the human disease

Not knowing what were meant to do
A ring with all the wrong keys
Searching for a purpose
We are the human disease

Material things important
The group who is crowded has three
Everyone feels alone all the time
We are the human disease

Totally useless

Dead on my feet

Catching up on the sleep

I didn't get last night

What's the point

Of coming to school

If I can't focus on

My work?

For what conceivable reason

Could I be here

Other than for

Cruel and unusual punishment?

I hate school.

Egotystical energy

EGOTYSTICAL ENERGY

Ever noticed

What people run on?

Like gas in a car

or food for a bird?

I, self

the definition of ego

people are fueled

if they think themselves heros

without success

or money or brains

what else have you got

so you dont feel lame?

Complete disregard of what's inside

Unkindled, unalive

Why have we let the best fall away?

Why do we want only money today?

The true good in humans

is what's in their hearts

not what they wear

not where they start

So, all you people, heed what I say

Don't ask for money

Don't ask for success

They'll come as they may

So don't make a mess

I drew the short straw

I DREW THE SHORT STRAW

Looking around

What do I see?

Everyone else

Is taller than me

I crane my neck

to see into their eyes

It takes more effort

to see through their lies

Bottom of the food chain

Bottom of the growth chart

But my height doesn't change

what I have in my heart.

Rebel

REBEL

Announcement of rules

Standards for the day

Flip my hand in disregard

I don't care what they say

The code of conduct

is my dart target

What dress code?

I forget

Rebel of the underdog

Overlooked at first sight

don't tell me to shut up

or I might pick a fight
