I Love Halloween
I do. I really do. And since coming to college I have dressed up every single year, managing somehow to alternate the gender of the characters I portrayed. I don’t have time to give you a full blog, but I thought, in the spirit of the holiday, I could briefly give you a picture blog of my four college Halloweens. Continue reading “I Love Halloween”
Goodbye TheseFolk
On February 20th, 2011, I posted my first video on a collaboration YouTube channel called “TheseFolk.” Me and thirteen other people found each other on a forum website, and we split into two channels- TheseFolk and ThoseFolk, each with 7 people, or one person per day. The idea was that we would all agree on themes for everyone in the channel to make videos on, and everyone would make one video a week. Those Folk stopped posting around June or July of that year, but TheseFolk, well, here we are, nearly three years later!
Unfortunately, though, we have to end our active posting as well. We made it a long ways, but we’re all adults now, with incredibly busy schedules. We didn’t want to just peter off, though. We’re going out not with a wimper, but with a bang. And so in honor of our final week making videos on the TheseFolk channel, I thought I’d compile a list of some of my favorite videos over the years. Enjoy! Continue reading “Goodbye TheseFolk”

Time is What I Do Not Have
Yesterday night, Ellen dragged me to a soccer game, which was lame on all counts, and during it she asked me what my weekly schedule was like. After I looked at her with a grimace, she changed her question from “when are you busy?” to “when are you free?” As it turned out, the latter question shaved about ten minutes off my answer. The Nice Guy Myth
I know there’s a lot of hoopla on the internet about how the whole “Nice Guy” trend is ridiculous and, frankly, insulting, but who would I be if I passed up an opportunity to rant about stupidity? Below, I will do my best to destroy the Nice Guy Myth once and for all. Continue reading “The Nice Guy Myth”

These Folk: What I’ve Done This Summer
Playlists of the Future
I guess now is as good a time as any to admit that I’ve got a new career/writing goal in mind for my post-college life. I want to write for TV. The way I figure it, my biggest strength as a writer is dialog and I watch a ton of TV, so why not combine those passions? Novels will always be my first love, but I think the best fit for me as a writer is a TV writer. With that, I started looking into the various ways I can break into the industry. It’s not very heartening, but what I have learned is that the most important thing to have is sample scripts, called “spec scripts”. Some should be scripts for current shows to prove you can write for someone else’s characters, and some should be original scripts. Continue reading “Playlists of the Future”
