I know, I know, I’m obsessed

First off, how do you all like the new logo? I like it, but I think I need a different color for the background, instead of orange. Thoughts?

So I just though I’d share this little tid bit of Jason Mraz with everyone. I found his blog last night and got really excited. But shhh. It’s (mostly) healthy.

“My mom sings in the Choir [in her church] and I volunteered my time to sit in at a later service and do the same. If I believe in any God at all, my God exists in music. I know this because music makes me happy and that’s the point of having a God. God isn’t responsible for Wal-Mart or for the War on terror; therefore, I don’t blame God. I believe those things happen by people who forget to look up and see what God is. They kind of ruin it for the rest of us. But then again, maybe their God gives them riches and power and that makes them happy, so who am I to judge?”

Grammy THIS, Coldplay

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m still smarting over the Grammys. Jason Mraz was nominated for three awards and walked away with 0. “I’m Yours” should have gotten song of the year, NOT “Viva La Vida”. It’s an ok song, yeah, but it’s not anywhere near Jason’s musical masterpiece. This development in his fantastic career is troubling. Stupid Coldplay. I’m slightly less upset about John Mayer beating him out for “Best Male Pop Vocals” with “Say”, but still. Jason’s voice was better, although I’m glad that if anyone won, it was John. (I love how I refer to them by their first names, like we’re buds) (On the other hand, Jason and I are going to get married some day, so it’s ok)

Highlights:

Record of the Year: Robert Plant and Alison Kraus: Please Read the Letter

Best New Artist: Adele

Best Rock Album: Coldplay, Viva La Vida, or Death and All His Friends

Song of the Year: Coldplay, Viva La Vida (Hate is pouring from my soul)

Best Pop Vocal Performance (Female): Adele, Chasing Pavements

Best Pop Vocal Performance (Male): John Mayer, Say

Best Rock/Pop Performance by Duo/Group with Vocals: Coldplay, Viva La Vida

Best Pop Collaboration: Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Rich Woman

Album of the Year: Robert Plant & Alison Krauss: Raising Sand

And now, for the amazingness of Jason… for whom I screamed every time the camera showed him. I thought he was still on tour and he wasn’t going to make it. Although he didn’t perform, he was there! My mom thought I was crazy…

EDIT: John Mayer is a good guy.

Playlists

Since recieving an iPod Nano for my birthday (thanks again mom and dad!!!), I’ve realized the value of multiple playlists. In my quest for creating the perfect mix of music for every possible situation, I have made two playlists, one for falling to sleep to, and one for studying. No doubt I’m going to make more, but as of right now, that’s what I’ve got.

Today I’ll only reveal my study playlist.

Rush and Collapsed by Aly and AJ

Eleanor Rigby and Hey Jude by The Beatles

The Great Escape, Five Minutes to Midnight, and Dance Hall Drug by Boys Like Girls

I Will Hide Myself Away, If I Fail, The Fortunate, Save Us, and Lucky St. by Cartel

The Time Of My Life by David Cook

Holiday From Real, Dark Blue, Made For Each Other, You Can Breath, Spinning, Swim, and Annie Use Your Telescope by Jack’s Mannequin

Geek In The Pink (for variety and study breaks), Did You Get My Message?, Plane, I’ll Do Anything, The Remedy, Who Needs Shelter, On Love On Sadness, Tonight Not Again, I’m Yours, Live High, and Details in the Fabric by Jason Mraz

Waiting On The World To Change, Stop This Train, Bold As Love, and My Stupid Mouth by John Mayer

That’s Just The Way We Roll, Burnin’ Up, Shelf, and A Little Bit Longer by the Jonas Brothers

Control, Kelsey, True To Me, Tell Me What To Do, and California by Metro Station

End Up Alone and Sometimes by Nine Days

My Heart by Paramore

Our Time Now, You and Me, So Damn Clever, and Hey There Delilah by Plain White Tees

Outline Of A Love by Run Kid Run

One Girl Revolution by Saving Jane

Love is a Lie and When I’m Gone (Acoustic) by Simple Plan

As You Sleep, Down, the Runaway, and Space by Something Corporate

It really does help. Some songs are more upbeat that I’ve found make me work faster, some are slower so that I don’t get distracted, and some, like Geek in the Pink, Burnin’ Up, and That’s Just The Way We Roll are study break songs so I can breath.

I’ve got my things, I’m good to go

For the musical portion of today’s witty addition to Bri’s Own World, I have awesome news. On January 31, which happens to be my birthday, Jason Mraz will be on Saturday Night Live!! He’s performing I’m Yours and Lucky! ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

But that leads to my next topic for today: birthdays.

Doesn’t it seem like a strange thing to celebrate?

“Congrats, you’ve survived another year!”

I mean, doesn’t it seem a bit gruesome?

“Happy Birthday, Bri!”

“As opposed to what?”

“…eh?”

“‘Happy death day’? ‘Happy day before you die’? Why are we celebrating that I’m still alive? Do you know something I don’t? Huh? Oh, dear god, I have cancer don’t I? Does Antonio Banderas have cancer too? Oh no oh no oh no…”

Maybe that’s not exactly how things are going to transpire, but you get my point. It’s a bit of a downer to celebrate being alive, don’t you think? I guess maybe it’s to compensate for the fact that, once most of us are dead, no one will remember us. So the longer we live, the better chance we have to be remembered. “Congrats, Bri! You’re 17 years more famous than you were when you were born! Awesome job not dying yet!”

…I have no way to end this blog. *Insert witty comment here*

Chop chop, he says I’m gonna win big

the Red Hot Chili Peppers are weird.

So, first I’d just like to mention how thankful I am for everyone who has been blogging and commenting lately. It warms my heart to see the thoughtful, intelligent posts and debates going on. I’d also like to say that my little bro, Godfather, has come a long way. His blogs, although not perfect, like mine(obviously), are actually pretty good. I’M even reading and enjoying them. Love ya, bro.

I’d also like to talk about what the esteemed webmistress is looking forward to seeing under her tree this Christmas:

-Gift cards to either Gap, Old Navy, Barnes and Nobles, or Borders.

-Music: “We sing. We dance. We steal things.-Jason Mraz CD”, any Jack’s Mannequin CD, any Metro Station CD, or a Meg and Dia CD.

-Black peacoat (These things are freaking expensive, though. If I wasn’t so cheap, I might have bought one myself a while ago)

-Red Converse, size 8 (I prefer the ankle ones… not high tops)

-Jason Mraz Calendar (or any calendar, I guess)

-Cool, non-holiday themed socks (that aren’t too thick)

This shirt

-Teeshirts from Snorg, BustedTees, or Threadless

-For the school newspaper to spell my name right

-Religious tolerance

-For the California Supreme Court to overturn Prop. 8

-For there to be a new human rights issue I can talk about, because gay marriage and abortion are getting old

-For either Jason Mraz, Liam Aiken, or Michael Phelps to propose to me

Oh, yeah, and world peace.

Actually, no. With Bart, I don’t think that’s ever possible.

Post your own wish lists! If you want me to hyperlink anything, let me know.

It’s all good

So I was searching Google News for some music headlines that I can write about, and then got sidetracked by searching for Jason Mraz.

It just went downhill from here.

So it’s well known that Jason Mraz is my crack. But why, you ask? Well, fiddly doo da, I’ll tell you!

First off, as is always important, Mr. A-Z is attractive. I’m just getting that out of the way.

Secondly, his music not only has interesting and meaningful lyrics, but it also has a diverse sound. I’m Yours is more of an island beat, while Geek In The Pink is more parody rap. But his voice is consistently beautiful.

Third, he knows what matters. He took a year off of touring and recording and “rediscovered” himself. He’s read books on a variety of different religions, and voted no on Prop 8. He’s controversial, but he’s intelligent.

The bell is about to ring, but listen to his music. He is amazing
